About Zen Habitats

Zen Habitats was born from a firsthand experience that every reptile keeper knows too well: realizing your pet's enclosure just isn't good enough.

When Heidi and Randy brought home their baby bearded dragon, Chi, they quickly noticed something was wrong. His enclosure was too small for him to run, jump, or climb. The glass reflected his own image back at him, making him territorial and anxious; heat escaped constantly, and reaching in from the top triggered his instinct to watch for aerial predators — a stress response hardwired into reptiles and amphibians through the parietal eye on the top of their heads.

They searched everywhere for a better option: a large, wooden, front-opening enclosure. It didn't exist in local or national pet stores. So they built one themselves.

Knowing that not every keeper has the tools, time, or know-how to do the same, they set out to create enclosures that were both affordable and thoughtfully designed — habitats that promote genuine health and stimulation for reptiles of all kinds. From that first build, Zen Habitats grew into one of the most trusted names in reptile enclosures in the United States, backed by a team of passionate reptile enthusiasts and a steadfast commitment to raising the standard of reptile care.

A New Chapter

In 2026, Zen Habitats became the founding brand of ZenPro Pets: a new unified company formed through a partnership with Peregrine Livefoods, the UK's largest reptile product manufacturer and distributor. Through ZenPro Pets, Zen Habitats' enclosures are now part of a broader ecosystem that includes ProRep, Blue River Diets, and White Python, bringing together the best of American and European reptile innovation for keepers across the U.S.

The Zen Habitats team remains fully in place, and our mission hasn't changed: to provide every reptile owner with high-quality products, expert resources, and the kind of care that started with one bearded dragon named Chi.

When we built Chi's first enclosure in our basement, we had no idea what it would become. More than 50,000 enclosures and 149,000 keepers later, we're so grateful you're part of this journey. Thank you for trusting us with the animals you love.
