I originally received the wrong size due to a packaging error but customer service was wonderful in making sure I got the right ones and made it easy to get the wrong ones back to them.

I've only had it a week, but it seems to do it's job pretty solidly. Holds water well and I had no problem sticking the liner to the walls. The provided tape won't stick to the frontal mesh option at all though, just as a heads up.
My only real "complaint" is that I underestimated how tall it was(n't) and I'm having issues keeping the substrate from pooling out over the edges. With a ~2.5" drainage layer, you *barely* have room for ~2.5" of substrate. I figured the description meant you could fit 6" of substrate and then there was an extra barrier, but there is purely just 6" to work with. It was ultimately my mistake, but for $40 I'd have liked a smidge more depth space.

I bought the bio basin in anticipation of combining two original 4x2x4 enclosures. To make a 4x4x4 enclosure.
Unfortunately I can’t use it because the extension kits only work with like models and so I need to buy 2 new enclosures to accomplish the 4x4x4.
So now I have an extra bio basin

We decided to go bio-active so needed the protection. This works brilliantly. It was easy to install and invisible .
Joy K.
I purchased an enclosure with bio basin and wish I had never purchased a Zen Habitat. I do not recommend a zen habitat for a king snake. The biobasin is only able to be secured with sticky tape of some sort (included in purchase) - you may as well put glue traps in your enclosure. As king snakes like to burrow, my snake consistently would try to burrow between the biobasin and enclosure - I may as well have put glue traps in my enclosure because you either risk the tape coming in contact with your snake and causing damage to your snake OR the alternative issue is over time dust and debris from bio active enclosure causes the tape to no longer stick. My snake also tried to burrow between the shield and doors - and since the shield is only able to be affixed with the same tacky tape - my snake was able to frequently separate it from the enclosure. This was the worst investment. Perhaps these enclosures are great for other types of reptiles but I do not feel I have provided a safe habitat for my king snake and will be looking to invest in a different brand.

Great products. Won't buy anything from anywhere else.
Rebecca M.
It holds the substrate in. $40 is a bit steep but it does its job well enough. I would like for there to be something to hold up the front, maybe a tension pole or something similar.
Isabelle L.
It was a little difficult to set up, but it does the job!
Amy R.
This product works well but is a pain to install. The customer has to put provided double sided tape all along the top edge of it. That should have been placed by Zen Habitats. It's just plastic for $40 so that is the least they could do.
charles w.
could be a smiget bigger to fit the corners better but still happy
Trisha C.
Works great! I use it in my Red Footed Tortoise enclosure. It helps with keeping the substrate in the enclosure and protects the panels.

We have ball pythons and a corn snake, and these are perfect companions to our Zen units. In those highly humid environments, there are no leaks thanks to the Bio Basin.
Melanie D H.
These might not be necessary for a lizard or small mammal, but for ball pythons who need a lot of humidity, they’re a must. These perform well and I haven’t had a single problem with them since I got them.
Rebecca B.
We tried SO HARD to love this. But the flimsy plastic was just...well flimsy! I fought with two of them trying to get them PERFECT in the bottom, even bought extra double sided tape. It just wouldn't work. Then we went ahead with our bioactive and figured it would be okay that it wasn't perfectly in the corners...we were wrong. Worms escaped and debris was falling out constantly. We LOVE the enclosure...hated this.
Teresa G.
The bio basin was really frustrating to install— the double sided tape is not a good system and I needed way more. It’s hard to keep the edges of the basin straight and get the tape in the correct spot. It looks best if filled all the way with soil otherwise the plastic is tacky and cheap appearing. However the basin is the correct height and keeps water from leaking out.
Chad R.
Just didn’t like the look and it was hard to install. Ended up waterproofing the enclosure instead looked much cleaner IMO.
Alison F.
These really don’t work well and are a mess.
Jared W.
These make cleaning a lot easier by letting you just lift the substrate out of the enclosure!
Daniel R.
It failed after only 24 hours and leaked water all over my carpet. Really had better hopes for this
Kevin K.
Doesn’t work with under tank heaters Its to loose and holds heat under it had to remove to get my ball pythons hide above 80 degrees I taped the edges to keep everything out

This my second zen habitat and love it. This enclosure was for a bioactibr brazilian rainbow boa set-up and it is perfect. Temperature and humidity is very stable and could not be happier. This will not be my last Zen Habitat!
Michelle F.
Love the bio basin! Wasn’t super fun to install, but got it done and is working perfectly! The first one I received was ripped and I contacted Zen and they shipped out a replacement right away. Great customer service! My Bearded Dragon Finley is so much more active and seems so much happier in her bioactive Zen!
Katrina J.
I got this because my Zen Habitat I just purchased last year has a bad habit of working it’s way loose at the corners when I open the doors, creating a gaping all 4 corners!! Yes you can beat them back in place after you notice it but in the mean time you have escaping meal worms and crickets running around your house! Meal worms will eat anything, including your rugs and carpet!!!!! So I got this hoping to stop my critters from escaping!!! This is a cheaper option than buying a new habitat for my dragon!
Steven A.
Couldn’t get the plastic completely laid out, was a hassle
Rachel P.
I got my stand, bio basin and everything else within a week, I ordered in February, we are now at the end of March and I've been patient with the back order but it keeps saying I should get my enclosure by the end of the day and I still have not gotten it and I am highly regretting this purchase
Diane P.
I was not sure if the liner would fit in my enclosure and used their chat option. Someone was there immediately. I do not have a Zen habitat, but after giving the details of my enclosure I was able to determine that it would fit. I put it in yesterday and it fits perfectly. Thank you. I will definitely order again in the future.
Lynsey T.
So bought this with the 4ft by 4ft by 2ft enclosure. The enclosure got here with in 3 days. The bio basin however ordered at the same time took 2 weeks. I kept calling to see when it would arrive everyday the told me it would be delivered the next day. This went on for 2 weeks. It took 3 weeks to be delivered. When it was delivered it was in good condition bit did not come with double sided tape. I have to buy it. Other than that it fits perfectly and is very durable.

I have been waiting for 6 months to give my review on the Zen Habitats 2 X 4 X 4. I loved it from the start, but I felt it would be a more informative review if I used it for a while.
I am REALLY glad that I got the 4-foot tall enclosure. That's because I decided not to buy a bearded dragon. Instead, I bought a male and female painted agama. The agamas are good climbers and jumpers. They love the height! They also love the wide open spaces. It is not uncommon for them to jump across the enclosure from one branch to the other, or from a branch to a hammock. They will even jump from the top basking area down to the bottom of the enclosure. It looks and sounds scary to me, but it doesn't bother them.
For temperature control, I experimented with light power and height of basking areas until I got it just where I want it. The top basking rock averages 105 degrees F. The medium basking rock averages 90 and the ground level averages between 70 & 75 degrees F depending on where they are down there.
In addition to the mercury vapor bulbs across the top for heat and UVB, there is plenty of room on the large screen top to add more lighting. I have a 48" T5 High Output Fixture with 1 UVB (Arcadia 14%) bulb to complement the mercury vapor bulbs and one 6500K bulb for enhanced lighting. And finally, there was still enough room across the top to run a 34" Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED Bar with 51-watts of output. It is a great finishing touch for lighting that makes the enclosure pop.
The cage was a bit of a challenge to assemble, but my wife and I got it done in about 40 minutes. Just make very sure to follow the directions explicitly in order to get rails in the right places. Some only work on left and some on right. The completed cage is quite strong. In fact, impressively so - more than I expected. One minor issue I had was that the 2 big sliding doors were hard to move. They tended to stick really badly. I fixed that by putting some dry teflon lube along the bottom. Now they are buttery smooth.
For the bottom front panel (below the doors), the cage came with the option to use either a plexiglass panel or a metal screen. I experimented with both and settled on the screen. It allows the right amount of air flow to help achieve the internal temperatures that I wanted. I also like that the lizards come over to the screen to say hi when I walk by. They are very happy and comfortable in their enclosure.
I am using the Zen Habitats "Zen Mat" on the bottom. I had experimented with various other substrates and didn't like any of them. They were messy and hard to clean. The Zen Mat solved all of that. It has some heft to it, so it easily lays flat on the bottom with no wrinkles, lumps or bumps. The lizards could not peel it back if they tried. I love that it has a somewhat textured surface so the lizards can walk on it easily. They get instant traction to sprint across the cage after a wayward Dubia that escaped the feeding bowl.
The best thing about the Zen Mat is that it is 100-percent waterproof. The lizard poops are easy to see and can be wiped up easily with a damp cloth or damp disinfecting wipe. I attend to those daily as I see them. Once a week, I clean the entire bottom with disinfecting wipes. It ends up looking just as clean and new as when I first installed it. The Zen Mat is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! In fact, that applies to the Zen Habitat itself. I am VERY happy that I bought it. I can't imagine using anything else. It is perfect.

We decided to use this even though we aren't going fully bioactive because we have a skink that requires high humidity and we don't want to risk damage to the enclosure itself or leakage. It fits perfectly in the bottom of the cage. We may end up adding a few more inches of substrate because otherwise it does sag inwards a little. I was able to help that by adding a few small strips of velcro tape and then hid the velcro with strategically places plants. While I wouldn't say it is perfect, I definitely feel much safer using it and would recommend it for anyone using a bioactive of high humidity set-up.
River W.
Fits the Zen Habitat enclosure perfectly. We haven't had any leaks or problems at all. Would definitely recommend this.
Lynette H.
Very satisfied with this company and its exceptional products! My BTS LOVES his new habitat and accessories!
Marsha M.
This is great for Bio-active and deep moist substrate, you can seal your cage but if you want to ever break down your cage to say move houses then this way definitely a MUST!
Tirzah J.
Nice and thick, does the job
Aleesha P.
Works as described

Excellent product to ensure no leaking, helps to contain isopod and springtails. easy to add to enclosure.

I couldn’t figure out how to update my last review, but I did want to give Customer Service 5 stars for not giving me one iota of grief over the seam-rip in the bio basin and sending me a new one straight away! I haven’t even received it yet, but I’m over the moon with the superior customer service with Zen Habitats. I have pestered them enough with questions to know how dedicated they are to we pet owners. Thank you, Zen, for my python’s “Forever Home”!
Tyler V.
I love the fact it fit so well inside the 4x2x4. I do wish it came up higher like with the substrate barrier for the 4x2x4 but still worked out holding in most of the substrate without it falling through the sides! Would recommend if going bio active to make sure water isn’t corroding the PVC over time.
Anissa M.
I’m actually sorry to write this review - I have purchased everything Zen that applies to my pet ball python, and she and I have been happy with most, even those we aren’t using. After waiting weeks for the enclosure to arrive behind all my other Zen products (deluxe spacer, stand, bio basin), I discovered a seam rip in our brand new bio basin, right where water was most likely to, and did, accumulate (under water bowl and humidifier). So, within 2 weeks of setting up a sparkly spot with all the trimmings (we call it the Taj McXan - last name McIntyre, snake’s name is Xanthippe), I had to clean up wet/muddy substrate that had seeped through the tear and onto the enclosure floor. Thankfully, I had sealed the seams of the pvc enclosure with silicone before laying down the basin, substrate and decor. I wouldn’t blame you for thinking that I caused the seam rip, but I am anal retentive enough to know I didn’t; between asking questions and following directions my girl wants for nothing. This is a relatively inexpensive product, but I don’t think anyone would be happy to have it fail within 2 weeks with less than 3 inches of substrate and a filled, non- moving water bowl on top. If you have one, check those seams; if you’re considering one, also consider reinforcing it before use.
Tiffani D.
A bit annoying that it doesn't fit perfectly, even with the tape. I've had some worms escape inside of the tank between the biobasin and enclosure. But other than that, it's great!
Faizan L.
Works great since I also want to keep the enclosure in great condition for a long a time!
Samiilyn H.
Wish it was a bit taller but it does its job im So glad i ordered it!!

I am housing a Russian Tortoise in the 4x2x2 enclosure. The clear liner fits perfectly and allows me to add enough substrate so she can dig in and take a nap. Good quality liner that I used the double sided tape to secure to the walls. Highly recommend.
